New Camera

In the hopes I’ll be using my blog more, I purchased a new camera.  The old point and shoot I had was a Canon ELPH 310 HS.  Not a bad camera by any means, it had the same resolution as my camera and being that I’ve been One Bagging my travels, it wasn’t worth carrying around.  Added weight and stuff is currently the bane of my existence when traveling.

*drumroll please*

I purchased an Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III with the included 14-42mm EZ lens.  I did a little shooting with it today as I walked around the neighborhood (to see what it’s capable of before I take it overseas).

I settled on this camera/lens pairing because it’s a mirrorless camera with a pancake style lens that is tiny.  There is also the LC-37C lens cap that automatically opens and closes as I power on/off the camera (and almost turns it into a point and click camera).  Sadly the local camera shop didn’t have it in stock, so I had to order the cap off Amazon 🙁  Olympus is currently running a $200 off bonus on this camera, so it was very cheap for what you get ($600 for the camera, lens, bag, and a cheap SD card).

Other accessories I purchased were a 2nd battery, a 2nd SD card, a cheap clear lens filter, a polarizing filter, a camera strap and a USB battery charger.  This should be enough to get me started taking pictures when I’m traveling overseas!

My initial impressions were very positive.  I shot a few pictures just to verify it was working correctly and get some experience with the camera before I need to start snapping pictures of things I’ve traveled so far to see!  Also needed to see if my workflow with my laptop is working well (it is).  Also going to learn darktable which is a lightroom style program only open source (and thus free).

The road ahead looks verdant, twisty, and I have no idea where it’ll lead but it looks interesting!

Showing the Path Ahead

Hopefully there’s going to be more pictures and posts here to keep everyone updated.
