Upgrading Kernel to update BTRFS

I’ve been running my desktop with 5x drives in RAID 1 under BTRFS.  I would have loved to run them in RAID 5 but sadly until recently, BTRFS RAID 5 was broken so I was forced to RAID 1 for redundancy.

Thankfully, in Kernel 3.19 they fixed the RAID 5 rebuild errors.  Even better, I can rebuild the RAID 1 array into a RAID 5 array 🙂  So, that’s my project this weekend!

I’ve already installed Kernel 3.19 but the system boots to a black screen 🙁  Luckily I can go back to 3.12 and it boots normally.  So here comes a weekend of figuring out why kernel 3.19 won’t work and I’ll report back.

Come next weekend or the weekend after, I will be setting up the Ubiquiti Unifi AP that I’ve gotten.  I already have the controller in a VM, but since the AP requires passive PoE, I can’t get it powered up.  A small cash infusion of a PoE injector and it’ll be up and running in no time.
