Completed Microsoft 74-409!

I passed the Microsoft 74-409 Server Virtualization with Windows Server Hyper-V and System Center test on Monday!  Going in, I totally felt that I was going to fail.  I hadn’t had any experience in Hyper-V, Microsoft Server 2012 (or Server 2012R2), or System Center.

For preparation, I ended up watching a several Microsoft Virtual Academy videos and taking the self quizzes.  The hardest part for me was getting my mind around all the different System center parts and what they all did.
Server Virtualization with Windows Server Hyper-V and System Center was the big one that I learned most of the material off of.  It’s an absolute must watch.
What’s New in System Center 2012 I found was ok and gave some background on System Center.
I watched about half of What’s New in System Center 2012 R2 Jump Start and it was VERY good.  I wish I had found this resource before the night before the exam.  It cleared up what exactly all the parts of System Center do.

I also did the first Technet Virtual Lab.  I found it less interesting and informative than I had hoped and thus skipped the 2nd lab.  If you are more of a hands on learner, it’s definitely worth checking out.  I can watch the videos and visualize myself clicking the buttons so I didn’t gain much (thus why I skipped the 2nd video).

The last resource I used was two blog posts, one each by Marius Sandbu and Bjorn Houben.  Both blog posts have a TON of resources, and I used some of the resources from both to fill in gaps where I felt weak.
