So, on Wednesday I played Modern Robots again. I played a more updated list (see below) and it went very well. I went 3-0 in matches and 6-0 in games.
Match 1 was vs Living End. Game 1 he wiped out my board at 5 life but only got a single 3/4 creature. I got a Steel Overseer out and he suspended a Living End (I had a ton of creatures in the graveyard). He didn’t follow up by trying to beat me down while the Living End ticked down. When the Living End unsuspended, I got two Signal Pests, an Etched Champion, and a Steel Overseer and he didn’t have any flying to block. Fin. I think he was hosed either way because I had two Steel Overseers growing themselves into giants and I was about to go on the offensive had he not played the Living End.
Game 2 he mulliganed to 5 and I had two Arcbound Ravagers out (making my team immune to Living End). He tried to cascade into a Living End but I Delayed it for the win.
Match 2 was vs U/R Delver. Game 1 he got out Delver of Secrets but never got a 2nd land. He kept digging for lands with Serum Visions and thus I didn’t have to worry about combat tricks with Lightning Bolts. I ended it turn 4 with a fatal Inkmoth Nexus swing for 10 by going all in on a Ravager.
Game 2 he mulliganed to 5 and while he got some land, I was able to keep his board in check. Spell Snare was nice vs a Smash to Smithereens. I was able to eventually able to get two connections with an Inkmoth Nexus armed with Cranial Plating.
Match 3 was vs G/B. Game one he wiped out three Steel Overseers and an Arcbound Ravager with Thoughtseize/Funeral Charm. I got a Etched Champion armed with 4x +1/+1 counters and a Cranial Plating and swung for the fences. I found out later he was playing 2 copies of Go for the Throat maindeck and had one in hand game one.
Game two I got some damage in with an Etched Champion and he drew 3x Dark Confidants. It was over pretty fast because he drew none of his green creatures to try to race and died to his Dark Confidants.
Since I drew in the finals (we played for fun match 3) I only got 3 packs. The store wasn’t giving store credit instead of the packs so I got 3x M15 packs. Only valuable card was a Battlefield Forge so I almost made my entry fee back. I also picked up the Whipflare and Torpor Orb that I needed for the SB so I was down slightly for the day.
